Daniel Ehls is Professor of Business Administration, specializing in Management and Entrepreneurship, at the Department of Business, Fulda University of Applied Sciences in Germany. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Technology and Innovation Management at Hamburg University of Technology, as well as an affiliate of the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard.

Professor Ehls researches distributed problem solving leveraging open and collaborative opportunities. He studies questions such as: How can organizations conduct and benefit from external knowledge search for innovation? How to optimize ideation and creativity particularly with crowds? How do new forms of organizations, such as communities or open source projects, manage new product development? How do user innovation and entrepreneurship influence market behavior and business model innovation? His research has been published in leading international peer-reviewed journals and best paper nominated (e.g., Journal of Product Innovation Management, Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedings).

Professor Ehls received his Doctor of Management, Economics and Social Sciences from Hamburg University of Technology for his research on Open Source Innovation resulting in the book “Open Source Innovation - The Phenomenon, Participant's Behavior, Business Implication” (Routeledge, 2015). Previously, he was a management consultant with accenture concentrating on innovation strategy and digital product development. He holds a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Stuttgart (Germany).
