Postdoctoral Fellow at the Digitial Value Lab

The Digital, Data, and Design (D^3) Institute at Harvard is accepting applications for multiple postdoctoral fellows to work on research activities at our newly formed research labs. D^3 will have a formal launch in July 2022 with 10 newly minted labs that will provide cutting edge research faced by academics and practitioners. The postdoctoral fellows will work under the direct supervision of faculty Principal Investigators and Lab Manager of each lab. D^3 is looking for candidates with diverse backgrounds and/or new perspectives. There are no teaching requirements for these open positions.

The Digital Value Lab, led by Professor Suraj Srinivasan, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow. The mission of the Digital Value Lab is to conduct research on performance impact and value creation outcomes from digital and big-data driven transformation in organizations. Research projects in the lab cover the following areas: digital governance, economics and management of AI and data analytics in organizations, AI driven investing and governance in banking and capital markets, the future of AI augmented finance function in organizations (Future of the CFO), An ideal candidate will be interested in digital and data analytics work and comfortable working directly with data.

A typical empirical project involves refining a research question, designing an experiment or survey, analyzing historical and experimental data, and writing targeted at peer reviewed social science journals. Candidates should have some familiarity with:

  • Causal analysis and experimental design: difference-in-differences and fixed effects models, instrumental variables, treatment selection, power analysis, analysis of attrition and non-compliance, analysis of heterogenous effects and interference;
  • Programming/scripting knowledge suitable for processing raw data for analysis (e.g., text manipulation);
  • One or more computational environments for statistical analysis (e.g., MATLAB, R, or Stata);
  • Writing papers for management and economics journals; and
  • Working with partner organizations or companies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in economics or management fields like finance, accounting, organizational economics, strategy, technology, or related areas with an interest in digital transformation, AI, and data analytics. PLEASE NOTE: If you have obtained your Ph.D. in the past 12 months you must be able to provide a certificate of completion from the degree-granting institution OR a letter from the institute’s registrar stating all requirements for the degree have been successfully completed and should verify the date the degree has been conferred. No exceptions.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills

Additional Information:

This is a term position through June 30, 2023, with the strong possibility of renewal based on funding and performance. Relocation funding not provided.

This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
