NIST: Differential Privacy Challenges

This series of challenges from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) had the goal to create an algorithm that could de-identify data in data sets associated with buildings, enabling the protection of personally identifiable information while keeping the dataset’s analysis integrity.

Starting with “The Unlinkable Data Challenge,” an ideation challenge on HeroX, and followed by “Differential Privacy Synthetic Data Challenge,” a series of three marathon matches on Topcoder, these challenges took place in 2018 and 2019 with a $40,000 prize pool for the ideation challenge and $150,000 in prizes for the marathon matches.
