Riccarda Joas is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Innovation Science (LISH). She is a Doctoral Candidate at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany. Her research interests are in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, venture capital, and diversity. She is focused primarily on quantitative empirical or experimental research. Recent projects include a study on the effect of gender and ethnic diversity on new venture funding and a study on the role of impact claimed by start-ups for the balance sheet of venture capital. Her research has been presented at international conferences such as the 83rd Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, the 2023 Diana International Research Conference, or the Strategic Management Society 43rd Annual Conference. Currently, she is investigating the evaluation by VCs based on machine learning algorithms, the challenges of female entrepreneurial activity in a macroeconomic context, stereotypes of managers responsible for digital transformation, and the role of personality in founding dyads. She was a recipient of the best paper awards at the 2023 Diana International Research Conference. Prior to coming to HBS she was a visiting PhD student at Saïd Business School in Oxford. Riccarda Joas has also worked as consultant with Boston Consulting Group and has gained experience with international investment and development projects for the United Nations, the Government of Germany and Audi.
